The hike begins by crossing the palm garden towards Wadi draa, after which we continue in the middle of the sand dunes. Take a lunch break in the shadow of the acacias before continuing to the sand desert, Lhnanich, where we stay overnight in a tent.
Start the day by crossing a small plateau in the direction of Sidi Naji, a gravesite in the middle of the desert covered by sand, and take lunch nearby. In the afternoon, we continue our trip from dune to dune, where we shall erect the camp for the night.
This part of the trip starts with the crossing of dunes and some tamarisk-fields and leads us to the sand desert Zaher, the “screaming dune”, with another overnight stay in the tent.
Day 4 / Day 5:
For two days, we follow the old caravan route and explore the heart of the dunes. We start in the sand desert Smar and end in Chegaga, where there is sand as far as you can see. This can be an opportunity for reflection and meditation!
We rise early, so that we can take advantage of the morning freshness on the way to Wadi El Aatach, taking a diverse route between the dune and sand desert. The camp is erected near a well, where we stay overnight.
After having crossed the last dunes of Bougme, the desert becomes drier and more mineral-rich. Fans of geology are now invited to get off their camels, to search for crystals and fossils or even find a meteorite. We arrive at Wadi Naam in the late afternoon and camp near a well.
We leave the dunes behind us after we have been to the stone desert Boumrad, and move on to Oumouzmou, a savannah or acacia desert, where we stay the night.
From Wadi Mezouaria, we travel along small dunes that are covered by tamarisks up to the camp in the sand desert Erg, and stay overnight in the tent.
After some hours of hiking the first palm trees of M’hamid welcome us. Arrive at the Hotel “Chez le Pacha”, where you will be welcomed back to civilisation.
